To all leaders involved with running the D of E Programme
The Scout Association has now started the process of rolling out the eDofE system. This is a significant move forward as eDofE enables young people to engage with electronic technology and record online their progress through the various levels of the Award. This new method of recording will also enable leaders to check online the progress of participants and approve their activities and programme plans.
I have attended an eDofE launch and I am excited at the opportunities the new system of working presents to us all.
So, how will we manage the change to our existing procedures? Firstly the existing order form for Welcome Packs is now obsolete and has been replaced with a ‘Registration Form for entering the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award’. This form requires parental consent.
To enable you as leaders to have access to eDofE you will be required to complete a ‘Leader Registration Form for entering eDofE’.
Once these forms are returned to me I will enter all the details on line and the system will generate a User Name & Password which will enable participants and leaders to enter and the operate the system.
You will be aware that all Welcome Packs issued to participants in 2010 included the Keeping Track booklet which gave brief details of eDofE and the opportunities it presented. I feel sure that once eDofE is in common use all those who enrolled in 2010 will want to enroll into the new scheme. A concession has been agreed by Gilwell that anyone who enrolled in 2010 should be given the opportunity to enter eDofE; I have therefore created a special form for this purpose which may be used by all those who have a CY10xxxx registration number in their Keeping Track booklet
It is important to remember that before I can register participants I must have Unit details and also details of the nominated leader who will be responsible for monitoring and accessing eDofE. I would ask that you respond to this request as quickly as possible.
Once you have signed up and registered the operation of the system is simple to follow. However I do appreciate that you may benefit from an induction and information session which I will be arranging before the end of the year.
We will all obviously take a little time to settle into the new scheme but we can be assured that the Gilwell
DofE Team is always on hand to give advice.
