Out & About with Shire Oak

European Jamboree

A contingent from Shire Oak District were just twelve of the 10,000 fellow Scouts who descended upon Hylands Park in Chelmsford, Essex for the 2005 European Jamboree.

Eurojam Diary:

Getting There Day - Travel to Hylands Park and set up camp.

Day 1 - "Nice to meet you". Getting to know everyone on the sub-camp - afternoon tea parties followed by the Opening Ceremony and stage entertainment.

Day 2 - Gilwell Expereince. An adventure day off-site.

Day 3 - "Yorkshire Day" and "Switzerland Day" (1st. August) featured a Lancashire v Yorkshire cricket match.

Day 4 - "Starburst". Community service off-site.

Day 5 - "Celebrate Europe Day". A fast moving day meeting and greeting fellow Scouters from around the world. Evening of stage entertainent.

Day 6 - Choice Time and Euroville (Irish Sea). Numerous bases for games, crafts and skills.

Day 7 - Choice Time and Euroville (North Sea). Stage entertainemt in sub-camp.

Day 8 - "Splash" at Alton Water. A day off-site - water sports, mountain biking, water fun and games.

Day 9 - Choice Time and Euroville (Mediteranian Sea). Badge swapping and camp activities.

Day 10 - Global Development Village. A unique insight into the plights of some of our European neighbours.

Day 11 - Curtain Call. A day of celebration as we say farewell to Scouters from Austria, North Korea, Switzerland, Germany, France, Cyprus, Ireland, Porugal, Spain, Malta, Finland, Turkey, Italy, Netherlands, Hong kong, USA, Canada and Kuwait.

Day 12 - Up-sticks and Away. The journey home.
