Beaver Sleepover

On 10 May 2008 history was made in Wetherby District when it held its first Beaver sleepover.

23 excited Beavers from Barwick, Boston Spa, East Keswick, 1st Wetherby & Wetherby St James arrived at Thornthwaite Scout Centre near Harrogate to find the the site had been turned into a piarate's den complete with a skull & crossbones flag flying.

After making new friends over lunch the Beavers spent the afternoon on a treasure hunt, playing games, creating pirate gear, walking the plank & climbing the rigging (traversing wall), before it was time for tea followed by a camp fire.

Supper & bedtime stories & teeth cleaning (its not Cub camp after all!) followed & all Beavers were fast asleep by 9.30!

Sunday morning saw an early start followed by more activities & an oppurtunity to explore the fantastic site at Thornthwaite.  (The only person to fall in the river was our Deputy District Commissioner!)

All too soon it was time for our Closing Ceremony which was made extra special by the investiture of 2 Beaver Leaders from Wetherby.  And then it was time to say goodbye to our new friends.

We were very proud of all the Beavers who were extremely well behaved & brave to be away from home considering their age.

It was a great pleasure to award them with their well earned 1 Nights Away Badge.

We all had such a great time we are considering doing it again next year.  Other Colonies are very welcome to join us - come along to our Beaver Scout Leader meetings & find out more.
