Almost 2000 Cub Scouts from across Yorkshire came together for a weekend-long party to celebrate their 90th anniversary.
Ahead of the centenary of Scouting celebrations next year, Cubs from Leeds & Wakefield enjoyed a huge range of adventurous and exciting outdoor activities including, climbing, archery, arts and crafts – and charging aboard a Pirate ship!
In one of the largest celebrations of Cub Scouting in the country, the Chief Scout, former Blue Peter presenter, Peter Duncan visited Hesleywood Scout Activity Centre near Sheffield to join in the fun.
Head of the Cubs Scouts in Leeds and Wakefield, Barbara Beck said: “The Cubs were founded in 1916 and this is a marvellous way to celebrate the achievements of the Scout Movement. Huge numbers of boys and girls in this country have been in the Cub Scouts and we’re delighted that the Cubs Scout section continues to go from strength to strength.
“The Event is a culmination of teamwork from over 200 volunteer Cub Scout Leaders from every corner of the county who have given their time freely to run such a successful major event in Yorkshire.” Speaking of Peter Duncan’s visit to Cubs Scouts in Yorkshire Barbara added: “The Chief’s energy and enthusiasm for Scouting has been a pleasure to see.”
