Scouting is the UK’s biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6 to 25-year-olds fun, challenging activities and personal development that make a positive impact in local communities.
Scouting provides a platform for young people and adults to reach their full potential. Scouts develop vital life skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world.
Scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, or even how to fly a plane. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.
About Central Yorkshire Scouts
Central Yorkshire Scouts has over 7,000 young members supported by about 2500 adult volunteers, covering the vast majority of Leeds and Wakefield post code areas. Our County is divided into 8 Districts each of which is led by a District Commissioner. Each District supports a number of Groups to provide local Scouting. In Central Yorkshire we have 102 Scout Groups. Have a look at the map to see the geographical extent of our County:
Our County membership has been growing consistently and has increased by an amazing 57% in the last 10 years but we still have many young people waiting to join. We want every young person to have the opportunity to be a Scout and to do that we need more adult volunteers supporting us in a flexible way that fits into often already busy lives. Our young people and our adults all have fun and enjoy the friendship of Scouting. If you want to get involved, there is no commitment, but if you try it you may well find it a life changing experience. Why not give it a go?
If you still think Scouting is just about boys, tents and woggles then take a look at this video to get a feel of what Scouting delivers.
