Central Yorkshire Development – July 2020 Update

Date: 4th Jul 2020 Author: Cathryn Atkinson

In this strange time, you can imagine that we are not currently completing our development work in the way we would normally do so.

However, this does not mean that we are not still working away behind the scenes. We have been looking at starting a development group, which is made up of District growth/development leads who can share good practice and support each other. I would like to use this opportunity to extend this invitation to anyone at group level who would like to get involved with growth and development please get in touch and join us: sarah.mcatominey@cycscouts.org.uk.

The Pears project has seen a few changes recently. Joanne has left to go on maternity leave and the team has been joined by Faye Royale as the Pears Co-ordinator. The team have been working hard in a number of Districts. We have seen projects in South Leeds and Morley, North Leeds, Wetherby and Wakefield and we are now beginning work in Shire Oak and West Leeds, with more projects with other Districts in the pipeline.

Unfortunately, due to Covid 19 the project is currently on pause and the staff furloughed but it will resume as soon as the team are able to re-join us. Our on-going projects are being well supported within the District. Clearly the shape of our work going forward will more than ever be dictated by the needs of the County and how this brilliant team can use their skills to allow Scouting to move forward in a post Covid world.

As the funded project draws to a close in 2021 we are now considering as a County how we can support the amazing growth and development work that is taking place,  and looking at how we could best provide that support. We hope to have some more certain plans for this exciting piece of work in the near future.
