Growth and Development Officer Update

Date: 5th Jul 2022 Author: Cathryn Atkinson

Following her hard work within Central Yorkshire, Elizabeth Wells has been successful in securing a substantive contract with the Scouts in the North of England. It has been a real privilege to have Elizabeth with us, we thank her for all her efforts and  wish her well in her new role.

Helen Thomas has been appointed as the new Growth and Development Officer for Central Yorkshire as the project extends into its second year. Helen will be working with the County to create more opportunities to join Scouting, and to support on issues affecting development, growth and retention of young people and volunteers. Helen has lived and worked throughout her life in Leeds and Wakefield, having spent 15 years working in the NHS. She will be a familiar face to some of you as she previously worked with Central Yorkshire Scouts as part of the Pears Project in 2019/2020. She is also Cub Section Leader in Wakefield and can be found at all sorts of events, especially those that involve mud and very little sleep!

When Helen isn’t found knotting, building dens, starting fires or completing her badge admin, she enjoys spending time with her family, running, and baking.

If you would like to know more about what she will be doing as a GDO in Central Yorkshire, or how you can get involved, please contact Helen.Thomas@scouts.org.uk or 07523 300811

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
