Here in Central Yorkshire, we are always immensely proud of all the brilliant things our Young People get up to, however we have been especially proud to see the efforts of so many in working towards, and gaining their Youth Commissioners’ Challenge over the past year. We don’t need to explain what worthy causes Candlelighters and our Scout and Guide Hospital Unit are, but we’ve been blown away by the creative, unique and special ways so many Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Adult Volunteers have found to raise funds, or otherwise support both charities.
On the 29th July we decided to say a HUGE Thank You to those who had earned their YCC badge through an activity day at Bramhope. Despite managing to get the one day of rain in a heatwave, hundreds of you turned out to celebrate your achievement and reflect on the real difference you have made. It was special to have representatives from both charities as well as Jane Dowson to join us on the day. However I think it would be more than fair to say the highlight of the day was our very own Chief Scout joining us!
Bear Grylls spent nearly an hour meeting Young People and Adults to congratulate them on their achievements as well as joining in some of the activities. He even found the time to open our BRAND NEW Low Ropes Course on site. When asked about the day Bear said “This is what scouting is about – doing our best and making a difference where we can. “I feel so proud of these kids and it is a privilege for me to be here.”
We hope you feel just as proud as Bear does of the incredible work so many put in to earning their Youth Commissioners Challenge.
