I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Alex Mutch for his leadership, motivation, and commitment to the development of Shire Oak over the past eight years as District Lead Volunteer. Alex has done a fantastic job, and as he prepares to move on to his next challenge, he should be incredibly proud of the way he has shaped and developed Shire Oak District. His contribution has made a real and lasting difference, and I know you will all join me in thanking him for everything he has done.
As you know, earlier this year we launched a search for a new District Lead Volunteer. We would also like to thank everyone who supported the process and worked hard to ensure that we found the right volunteers to take the District forward.
I am delighted to share with you that Sarah Shay and Joanna Green have agreed to take on the role of District Lead Volunteers for Shire Oak District on a shared basis.
Many of you will already know Sarah through her current role as Group Lead Volunteer at Bramhope Village, her involvement across the County, and her role as one of our contingent leaders for the 2027 World Scout Jamboree. You may also know Joanna through her involvement with the same group, as well as her wider Scouting activities.
Sarah and Joanna bring a wealth of experience to the role, including strong management and leadership skills developed through both their professional careers and their Scouting roles. Most importantly, they both have a real passion for Scouting and a strong belief in the value and opportunities it provides for young people.
The search group and I are confident that Sarah and Joanna will build on the already fantastic Scouting provision across Shire Oak District and continue to support and develop the amazing work that you all contribute to. Sarah and Joanna will officially commence their new appointments on 1st October, and I know you will all join me in welcoming them to their new roles and wishing them every success for the future.
Once again, thank you to Alex for everything he has done for Shire Oak District, and to everyone who continues to give their time, energy and commitment to making Scouting across Central Yorkshire such a success.
